AP and other news outlets report that Facebook is pursuing a
number of major law firms it asserts pursued meritless claims regarding the
social media company’s ownership. See, e.g., Barbara Ortutay, Facebook Sues Law Firms, Claims Fraud, Associated Press (Oct. 20); Dan Primack & Miguel
Helft, Facebook sues big law firm over fake ‘owner’ claims, Fortune.com (Oct.
20, 2014), Vindu Goel, Facebook Sues Lawyers for Pressing Dubious Ownership Case, New York Times Bits (Oct. 20, 2014).
Not sure how to interpret this one, yet. Is Facebook’s
effort an attempt to intimidate major law firms from representing smaller
entities with legitimate claims? Or were major law firms attempting to
intimidate Facebook with meritless litigation? Stay tuned. Meanwhile, think
about how not to be intimidated by very deep pockets.
